First and Second Life at least.

Reflection Time… January 18, 2011

“After 52,351 posts, Hucka D., I think it’s time to call it quits. California is no more, New York is part of Canada, and Spain and Portugal share, once again, a single peninsula. So much under the bridge since it began way back, when was it, 2018?”

Hucka D. (husky, older voice):

2008.

bb:

And look at you. The bee part of you makes you age much [faster] than me during the same time span. How much longer do you have, really?

Hucka D.:

Dead Bee Walking. But I can still talk to you after death. I didn’t want to tell you this until it is over but…

bb:

The world ended and I didn’t know it?

Hucka D. (coughs, wheezes):

Not quite. It ends today. Type away my friend for it is the last words you will type. We have about 35 minutes.

bb:

Spiffbook has made us both rich, er, entities, Hucka D. Edna is off on a book tour again. Spiffy Jr. is in jail for bug possession once more, but jail isn’t what it use to be. Really, you’re better off in there than out here!

Hucka D.:

So many people in jail. Really, we’re the ones on the inside if you think about it fast and hard. But we’re mostly bug free now. I hate gnats (coughs).

bb:

Me too. Good riddance.

Hucka D.:

And the children — mostly gone too. I’d say the same about them but that makes up most of our readership these days. Since there’s even fewer of the grownups around.

bb:

All you see, yeah — children. But not many of them since they’re so few people around, period.

Hucka D.:

My eyes are sore (rubs eyes). I can’t see the blackboard any longer. What are my next lines?

bb (turns around to look):

Let’s see. You say, “and there’s no place like home, no place like home.” Just kidd’n, it’s just a note about talking about birds next.

Hucka D:

Oh, right (wheeze). Dino-birds. What the f– were those pseudoscientists thinking when they mutated the emus with dino DNA? Sometimes they top 30 feet now. Look, there’s one now, way down there by the town’s water source (points out window). See its head bobbing up and down? That’s what they called progress? Bring back the dinos — great idea.

bb:

Wasn’t the best in retrospect, no.

Hucka D.:

I saw 3 people eaten last week alone. I’m not as nimble as I was even last year; I’m fair game!

bb:

So we have 25 minutes.

Hucka D.:

Yes. Doesn’t matter now.

bb

At least Hurla Dontbee’s real now. Thanks to the Inanimate Civil Rights Movement.

Hucka D.:

Yeah some of them can move real good now. Let’s say sack time involves much less sleep in the last 7 years.

bb:

That long, huh?

Hucka D.:

You remember that game called Second Life, where it all started? Remember how I found Hurla Dontbee there.

bb:

Yeah, of course I remember. We use to explore continents together there. What was that one town’s name. Chinbo. Nah, I don’t think that’s it.

Hucka D.:

And Pratfall… wasn’t that it? The place where Doris Day came back from the dead to celebrate Boxing Day.

bb:

That was after Second Life ended. All the coffins flew open for a while. Talk about property law problems. Eventually everything was turned over to the Martians.

Hucka D.:

Yeah, that was probably all for the best, even though they were on the side of the dinosaurs by that time. Sorry, dinos. I know you don’t like the word dinosaurs.

bb:

I never said that.

Hucka D.:

Yes. And then the cars were outlawed, but we all could run up to 60 mph so it didn’t matter. And food became stale all at once all over the world. So we had to learn how to do without that as well. Tough, transition times. But the Martians turned out not so bad after they apologized for the dino pact mistake. Hubert IV made a pretty decent world dictator.

bb:

We have about 15 minutes.

Hucka D.:

No. Five. We better end, actually, now.

bb:

Goodbye Hucka D. It was nice knowing you.

Hucka D.:

Same here. Let’s hold hands now to end it all.

bb:

That simple, eh? Holding hands.

Hucka D.:

Yes.

(they hold hands)

Oooooh, what a simply beautiful story! It was a story, right? You’re still around, right? I mean, 5 minutes can last a really long time, relatively, right?

  2. Hey June! Thanks for the comment. 🙂

Yeah, I was a bit worried about the tone of finality in this one. Is it really the end of the blog? and so forth. But I don’t see how — Pietmond is still vital and active, and I’m in the middle of a long interview with one of the exhibitors. Seems to be just a far future echo, then.

Let’s hope many of those predictions don’t come true, although i really could do without the gnats.

    Have a nice day!
